The Slow Return of Light

Dec 15

By David Fulton, Founder of California Depth Therapy

On December 21st, we arrive at the longest night of the year. The world pauses at its deepest dark, and then almost imperceptibly, the light begins to return. Not in a rush. Not dramatically. Just a quiet turning.

There is something deeply comforting about this moment. The light does not demand that the darkness disappear. It emerges from within it. Slowly. Faithfully. Without announcement.

Winter solstice reminds us that darkness is not a mistake. It is part of the rhythm. Rest, slowing, and inwardness are not failures of productivity. They are necessary seasons of becoming.

So much of healing works this way. Change does not always arrive with clarity or certainty. Often it begins in small shifts we barely notice at first. A slightly different response. A softened edge. A new thought that lingers.

As we move past the solstice, we do not rush toward brightness. We simply trust that something is already turning. If you find yourself tired, reflective, or quiet this season, you are not behind. You are in season.

May you allow the dark to teach you what it needs to teach. And may you notice the light as it begins its gentle return.
